Who's the Boss? (Becca...)

It cracks me up lately how bossy Becca is becoming to Henry. For example, this morning on the way to the gym Henry sneezed. Becca says, "No! Bad choice Hemy! Time out!" This was after telling me that Jesus is sitting on the couch and Papa (my dad) is laying down sleeping with a blanket. With as much as she talks about time outs you'd think she gets one every day, but it's really quite rare...maybe once a week. She does frequently try to give Henry (aka "Hemy") time outs for various things like rolling to the fireplace, chewing on her Little People, etc.

Thanksgiving was nice, we had a delicious dinner (if I do say so myself) and had a wonderful long weekend. Josh had 6 days off work and it was spectacular. Now we're preparing for Christmas and will be leaving for Michigan in a few weeks, Lord willing. I'm beyond excited to go again. It doesn't really feel like Christmas to me when it's 65 degrees, but I'm not complaining. I'll take it. :)

We've had a little mouse trouble lately. There was a tiny gap around the water pipe coming from the floor into the downstairs bathroom cupboard under the sink. The mouse was getting in there and shredding the toilet paper (not getting out of the cupboard though, thank goodness). We put a trap in the cupboard and tried to lure it back with cheese and more toilet paper, but it hasn't fallen for it yet. I've avoided that bathroom since I discovered him last week, but we have the cupboard blocked so it can't get out...just in case it's the strongest mouse of all time.

Tofurkey, anyone?

I am going to make the biggest turkey ever born (or hatched...).

There is a Disbursing Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday. I had Josh sign us up to bring a turkey, which I somewhat regretted after finding out that it had to be approximately 20 pounds. Having never made (or purchased) a whole turkey before, I wasn't quite sure what I was looking for. I read the tag and it said "16-22 lbs" so I thought, "Great! That's exactly the range I need!" and bought it. I got Tom home and looked closer at the tag and find that he actually weighs 27 pounds!!

There are 9 people bringing turkeys and some people bringing hams...maybe if Tom doesn't turn out juicy and tender no one will know which turkey is mine. To make the situation more exciting, this dinner is actually at lunch, which means I'll have to get up with Tom around 3 am to get him cookin'. Bathing and cleaning out a dead bird is exactly what I would love to do in the middle of the night. Maybe I should make a Tofurkey instead. :)

Actually, last night I made baked ziti with tofu replacing some of the cheese and it turned out delicious. To be honest though, it was supposed to replace some mozzarella but then I added extra mozarella so really it was regular baked ziti with tofu added. However, I did sneakily add carrots and sweet potatoes, so it really was pretty healthy.

We are moving again this weekend! But thankfully, this will be the last time for a few years. We close on our house on Thursday, and then will hopefully be able to completely move in over the weekend; though we have another week to be out of our apartment. We really love our new house too. It's a bit out in the country, but it'll be nice to be away from Jacksonville and all the busy-ness. It's a brand new development, so our street is the only one that's finished so far. There is also going to be a playground in the neighborhood, so Becca will love that it's in walking distance, we can go play frequently.

Henry is growing so fast. He is 5 1/2 weeks old now. I gave him his first h
aircut last night. It looks pretty good, though it's not totally even. You really can't tell though unless you run your fingers through it. Speaking of haircuts, I've been cutting Josh's hair for awhile now. I've gotten pretty good at it too. He said that I rate as high as the Quantico barbers (which are apparently better than barbers at other bases...)

I think I'm about ready to start working out again too. I went to the doctor today and she said my incision has healed nicely and my abs are feeling much better. People think C-sections are so much easier than natural labor and delivery...until they have one. I'm sure natural labor and delivery is horrendous, but at least afterwards the pain is over for the most part. C-sections, not only are painful during surgery, but require SO much recovery time and are painful for weeks or months afterward. My abs still weren't completely healed from my first C-section when I got pregnant with Henry (9 months later). Anyway, I seem to be healing quicker this time around. Not ready for any ab workouts, but I feel well enough to start some light cardio and maybe some light strength training.

Well we have not had the best of weeks. Last week Becca had the stomach flu and it took her a few days to fully recover. Then, on Sunday, Josh and I came down with it. Because of the stomach flu and it's various effects I had horrible contractions for about 7 hours. So we went to the hospital and they re-hydrated me (though due to the unfortunate flu symptoms I was just as dehydrated a few hours later). Josh is feeling much better today, and I'm feeling a little bit better, so it's good we're on the mend. And Andrea's flying in tonight for the week! It's really nice of her to come on such short notice. I can definately use her help this week. I have a lot of things to do before the baby comes and it's just so hard to do everything I need to now that my belly's so big and Becca's so active.

42 More Days

I had no idea it had been 4 months since I last updated. It doesn't really matter, I doubt anyone reads this but me anyway, but it is nice for me to be able to come back and read what was on my mind over the past months. I always used to journal when I was in high school and through part of college, but then I felt too busy. Now whenever I try to use paper and a pen for anything Becca just comes over and steals my pen, so I don't bother very often. Maybe that should be my New Year's resolution...to try to journal once a week. Even if it's on here.

The new baby is coming in 42 days or less! This pregnancy just seemed to fly by. At least until we moved to Jacksonville; now it's seeming to drag. But that might just be because I'm finally in the home stretch and it drags by for everyone. I keep telling Josh how much I want the baby to be born and how I'm so sick of being pregnant (not that I had a difficult pregnancy, just not much of a break between Becca's and this one). I try to remind myself of 2 things. 1) The baby is easier to take care of inside than it is on the outside. 2) These are our last days as a family of 3, and I should be cherishing all of this alone time I'm getting with Becca that I'll never have again. I have a c-section scheduled on March 12 (exactly 6 months after Becca's birthday), so unless I go into labor before that will be our baby's birthday. I was so determined to try a VBAC, but in order to try one I'd have to go to Wilmington or Greenville...both too far away to make it worth it. But the doctor said if I do go into labor and the hospital has the available staff and is not too busy, they'll let me try to do a VBAC. So I'm hoping to go into labor on the 11th, so my mom will already be here to watch Becca. : )

Becca has been exhausting me lately. She is always on the move and I'm getting too big to chase her all the time! For awhile after she started crawling she would entertain herself for long periods of time. Now she's so close to walking that all she wants to do all day is walk back and forth across the apartment with her little stroller. Adorable, and great practice, but because it's an apartment she can't go very far before she has to turn around which she doesn't know how to do yet.

We're hoping our number will come up soon on the base housing waiting list. We've moved up 4 numbers in about a month, and right now we're number 9. So we're hoping by April or May. It would be nice to be all moved in before the weather gets too hot. It will be so nice for Becca (and the baby eventually) to have so much room to run around and play. And it will be wonderful for us to be able to unpack all of our stuff and not have to cram every closed space to the ceiling. Apartment living has it's drawbacks, but we're definately saving money by doing it until we get into a house on base.

Josh is still in his MOS school. It's so much better than TBS. I can see how my perspective has changed so much. The latest he's gotten home is at 5:30...I barely remember any days at TBS he was home that early...and now I find myself thinking at 5:00, "Where is he? Why isn't he home yet?" And once he is actually with his unit working it will probably be even more ideal hours. We're getting very spoiled here...but after TBS it's a nice change of pace.
