Tofurkey, anyone?

I am going to make the biggest turkey ever born (or hatched...).

There is a Disbursing Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday. I had Josh sign us up to bring a turkey, which I somewhat regretted after finding out that it had to be approximately 20 pounds. Having never made (or purchased) a whole turkey before, I wasn't quite sure what I was looking for. I read the tag and it said "16-22 lbs" so I thought, "Great! That's exactly the range I need!" and bought it. I got Tom home and looked closer at the tag and find that he actually weighs 27 pounds!!

There are 9 people bringing turkeys and some people bringing hams...maybe if Tom doesn't turn out juicy and tender no one will know which turkey is mine. To make the situation more exciting, this dinner is actually at lunch, which means I'll have to get up with Tom around 3 am to get him cookin'. Bathing and cleaning out a dead bird is exactly what I would love to do in the middle of the night. Maybe I should make a Tofurkey instead. :)

Actually, last night I made baked ziti with tofu replacing some of the cheese and it turned out delicious. To be honest though, it was supposed to replace some mozzarella but then I added extra mozarella so really it was regular baked ziti with tofu added. However, I did sneakily add carrots and sweet potatoes, so it really was pretty healthy.
